Federal Trade Commission / Consumer Protection

  • The FTC is the government's consumer protection arm. Check out their consumer web page for links to publications about cars, credit, health, and many more areas of consumer concern.

U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission

  • Created to protect the public from unreasonable risk of injuries and deaths associated with consumer products and to inform the public about product hazards. Explore their publications here.

U. S. Food and Drug Administration

  • The FDA is responsible for protecting public health by assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of drugs, medical devices, cosmetics, our food supply, products that emit radiation, and tobacco products.

Center for Science in the Public Interest

  • An advocacy organization devoted to nutrition, food safety, health and related issues. Seeks to educate the public, advocate government policies consistent with scientific evidence, and influence policy and public opinion.

Public Citizen

  • Founded by consumer advocate Ralph Nader, Public Citizen is “… a national, nonprofit consumer advocacy organization founded in 1971 to represent consumer interests in Congress, the executive branch and the courts”

National Consumer Law Center

  • A nonprofit advocacy organization helping consumers, their advocates, and public policy makers to use consumer laws to assure justice. Lots of useful information links available on their site.

Better Business Bureau

  • BBB’s mission is to "advance marketplace trust by: creating a community of trustworthy businesses; setting standards for trust; encouraging and supporting best practices; celebrating role models; denouncing substandard behavior." Provides a useful resource library of information.
