Professional Statement

Abstract

My professional statement integrates my beliefs and personal goals concerning the field of instructional design and technology (or IDT).  With my Information Science background, I came to an understanding of what I feel defines the field of  IDT that resonated with the professional standards by the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (or AECT).   That “is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources” (AECT, 2008).  In other words, instructional technology is about facilitating, improving, creating, and managing user experience with both the instructor and learners actively involved in the processes.

As I advanced through my instructional technology program, I learned to apply learning theories and multimedia technologies to enhance the interactivity in online courses for students' self-actualization that led to the measurable learning outcomes. These are represented in my artifacts contained in this portfolio. The projects, integrated with my Information Science background, helped me to identify my professional goals in instructional technology as a whole.  My career goals are to enhance my instructional design skills to better serve higher education clients.  My goals and timeline for accomplishing them are explained in my professional statement.
